ANY IDEA WHO SAID THIS? “I haven't played team golf since 2011 Walker Cup. I really love it and I've heard great things about Royal Melbourne. I'm excited to have a good week with the guys.”

BRAIN TEASER: How many players in this year’s field at the TOUR Championship failed to register a win this season?

ENOUGH! Count Rory McIlroy as part of the minority. Yes, he’s one of the few that is able to play on the PGA TOUR. Yes, he’s able to make a king’s ransom doing what he loves. Those two alone make him part of the minority in terms of the real world. Inside the bubble of the TOUR he’s also an outlier. Confused? Maybe this will help you.

“I saw they (European Tour) released a four-point plan, but I only read the headline. I didn't go deeper into it. I've had enough of the slow play stuff. I had two hours of it last week at the PAC meeting, and that came to nothing,” he said. How many TOUR players are this candid or speaking out regarding the snail’s pace TOUR player adopt as standard operating procedure.

“I don't think we're going to have a difficulty with pace of play with 30 guys in the field this week. Seriously, it's like traffic, right? You get 156 in the field, and it's hard to get those guys around quickly. Even last week, 70, there was no mention of pace of play. Field sizes,” he continued. “I'm in a privileged position that I can say that because I'm going to get into a field of 30 or 70. Obviously, guys that are not quite in my position would disagree with that. If you want to speed up play, cut the field sizes.” Can you list anyone else that would say this? That’s what makes McIlroy part of the minority!!

BIG HITTER: Rory McIlroy led the field in driving distance last year at East Lake in the first round averaging 320.5 yards. This year he leads the field again but averaged 317.7 yards on Thursday. Do you think that will ever get factored into the distance debate?

WEB GEMS:

WE HAVE A HORSE RACE: There was a fear before the TOUR Championship debuted its new format that the FedExCup leader could run away with the tournament and create a weekend devoid of drama. That wasn’t the case Thursday at East Lake Golf Club, though. The two-shot advantage that Justin Thomas held when he stepped on the first tee was gone by the 13th tee. After struggling to find fairways and hitting an iron into the water, Thomas finds himself in a three-way tie for the lead with 54 holes remaining. READ MORE>>>

AU NATURAL! Brooks Koepka thinks he looks better naked than all those who criticize him. Like other athletes who are among the best in their respective sports, Koepka wanted to pose in the ESPN Magazine’s Body Issue this year, so he did. And he’s proud of that accomplishment. “It’s one of those things where all these people that talk crap and whatever on social media, they don’t have the balls to do it, and they wouldn’t look that good,” he said Thursday after shooting 3-under 67to take a share of the lead.
