For anyone who has been fortunate to visit Turnberry, they already know its a special place. In 2008, the Aryshire venue celebrated in 100th birthday. The host to the duel of the desert splashed onto the scene back in 1977 when an epic battle ensued between Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson for the claret jug. With its long and illustrious history, Turnberry knows a thing or two about changes. Last year it was sold. Now is in the midst of a renovation as it prepares to host the Open Championship later this year. Now golf fans or simply collectors have a chance to claim a piece of the iconic and world renowned Turnberry Hotel. The contents of it are to be sold at McTear’s on January 10, 2009, with the entire net proceeds going to local charity.
In advance of the 138th Open Championship, to be held on the Ailsa Course at Turnberry in July, the iconic Turnberry hotel is undergoing a multi-million pound refurbishment to restore it to its former glory. As a result, many traditional furnishings, fixtures, pictures and memorabilia from the famous corridors, public rooms and bedrooms of the Turnberry hotel will go under the hammer in Glasgow.
