The world is all a twitter about what else: Twitter. Bet you thought I was going to say the economy? The latest social networking tool is also being embraced into the traditional world of golf. For example, PGA Tour player Stewart Cink has developed a large following on the platform. His motive in tweeting is to show off his personality versus the persona that is shown when he’s working on television. He appears to be on to something as he recently revealed a shameless plug: Nike Golf to award a Nike Driver with UST/Mamiya shaft to my 150,000th follower. Recently, however, Nielsen Online research reported more than 60 percent of Twitter users have stopped using the micro-blogging service a month after joining. The conclusion of the research is that Twitters have a limited attention span. If your one of those or haven’t been caught up in the fuss over the social network, there are other golf deals waiting to be had.
With the economy acting more and more like a backed up toilet, free seems to be the operative work in some circles. Another example is Golfsmith, which proudly announced its intension of giving away 20,000 free rounds of golf. The catch is to qualify you have to buy a piece of equipment above $125. Now recreational enthusiast towards the game have been inclined more than once or twice to try and buy themselves a game. The latest promo by the national retailer is likely going to hit the sweet spot with plenty of folks who were intending to continue their annual ritual of introducing something new to their bag.
Callaway Golf is also getting in on the act. The company has a deal if you buy a Big Bertha Diablo Driver you can get a Diablo Fairway Wood for $1 (ordinarily a $199 value), or if you purchase one of it’s FT-9 or FT-iQ drivers you can choose from a FT-i Squareway Wood for $1 (a $299 value) or two Callaway X Fairway Woods for $1 (a $338 value).
Not to be outdone, TaylorMade is currently offering a “Buy an r7 Limited driver and get a free pair of adidas Golf POWERBAND Sport shoes free (a $99 value)” also effective May 1 TaylorMade is promoting “Buy a new 2009 Burner Driver and get a free 2009 Burner Fairway Wood or 2009 Rescue club (up to a $179 value).”
Also starting on May 1, Cleveland Golf is promoting “Buy a Cleveland Launcher or HiBore Monster XLS Driver and get a free HiBore XLS or Launcher Fairway Wood (value of up to $179).” In case your still not intrigued, Adams Golf is promoting “Buy any Adams Speedline Driver and get a free Adams Speedline Fairway Wood (valued at $179).” The company is also starting on May 1, “Buy a new a4 or a4 OS iron set and get an a4 or a4 OS Fairway Wood for free (value of up to $269).”
Free golf, discounted equipment prices and all you need is some money and time to take advantage of both. Or you can play the lottery and try and land on the 150,000th follower of Stewart Cink on Twitter. At last check there were 117,000+
