The PGA Tour gets underway later this week in the Aloha state and the focus will once again be on what happens inside the ropes versus the alternative. It will also be the first official event that employs the condition of competition for grooves. Its likely to get plenty of notice from various media constituents but it will interesting to follow with regard to whether it has much impact on scoring, which in turn could be interpreted as entertainment. To date it’s pretty much been unanimous amongst Tour player testimonials that the new groove configurations won’t make much difference to their respective games. The proof as they say will be in the pudding.
At last year’s event, which was known as the Mercedes Benz Championship, Geoff Ogilvy strolled to a six shot victory at the Plantation Course to finish 24 under par (67-68-65-68 on the par 73 layout). This year’s winner of the SBS Championship will kick start the year as the spoils of victory include a $1.008 bump in earnings.
