The June rounds played report came out from Golf Datatech. The research has grown in importance over the years as the manufacturing community points to it to support its case, good or bad, with regard to the trend in equipment sales. Unfortunately, the news isn’t what anyone wants to hear.
On a national level the amount of golf played for the month of June was down 2.1% from a year ago, according to Golf Datatech. Public courses (-2%) faired a little better than the private facilities (-2.4%). Through the first six months of 2010, the combination of public/private courses on a national level are down 2.7% from 2009. Public access courses were down 2.3%, while private courses are down 4.3% with half the year left on the calendar.
Two regions out of the eight making up the US reported growth in June. The mid Atlantic region grew by 6.2%, over a year ago, while New England came in 9.9% higher versus June 2009.
