In an industry that has been challenged by course closures in the US and too many consecutive years of rounds played declining, its interesting to hear Mark King, TaylorMade adidas Golf’s CEO, describe his business as a growth company. The NGF published that 400,000 American golfers migrated from the sport in 2011. From 2008 to 2010 another 1.5 million Americans walked away from playing and by default buying the latest and greatest equipment. Nevertheless, King believes Adams Golf can be a $400-$500 million business by 2015. His goals, which he acknowledges are aggressive, is to see it become the #3 brand in golf. King also said that in order for TaylorMade to grow its bottom line it will have to be accomplished through acquisitions.
