New Balance Golf is now shipping its first entry into the golf footwear category, a lightweight, spikeless golf shoes built on the Minimus running last. Available in two models,  Minimus Sport (suggested retail $99.95) and Minimus LX (suggested retail $109.95), the collection utilizes REVLite for lightweight cushioning, a 4mm drop midsole and a dual density durable spikeless outsole.

"At only 7.3 ounces, the Minimus Sport golf shoe is one of the lightest in the industry," said Carey Langley, product director, New Balance Golf. "Both golf shoes are built on the same 4mm drop last used in other Minimus running and training shoes. This provides a lower heel stack height resulting in your feet being lower to the ground. The Sport has a mesh upper making it a little lighter than the LX which is a full-grain waterproof leather upper. Golfers will find the Sport and LX deliver the comfort, fit and performance features that they enjoy from New Balance footwear."

New Balance is clearly new to the golf, despite having a significant presence in the shoe business. In recent years, there has been a trend by its peer group, entrenched within golf, towards a lower to the ground model. New Balance is looking to leverage its brand equity into the category, despite spotting the competition a head start. The Minimus Sport and Minimus LX are available now in golf shops, golf specialty stores and online at Additional models will be available on March 15th.
